Transform Your Smile with Veneers

If you're unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, whether they are chipped, stained, or misshapen, veneers might be the solution you need. Veneers can rejuvenate your smile and enhance your overall look.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a conservative cosmetic treatment designed to improve the appearance of your teeth. They consist of thin porcelain shells that cover the front surface of your teeth. Porcelain is used because it can be customized to match the color of your natural teeth. Unlike crowns, which encase an entire tooth, veneers require less removal of enamel, preserving more of your original tooth structure. Essentially, veneers give your teeth a “new face” without extensive alteration.

The Procedure

Obtaining veneers typically involves two appointments:

  1. Preparation: During the first visit, your dentist will prepare your tooth to ensure it can accommodate the veneer.
  2. Placement: A few weeks later, the veneer will be permanently attached to your tooth, completing the transformation.

With their minimally invasive nature, dental veneers are a key tool in cosmetic dentistry, offering a straightforward way to achieve a stunning smile.

Dental Veneer Procedure

The process of getting dental veneers begins with the dentist removing a very thin layer of enamel from the front of your tooth, typically less than one millimeter. This minimal removal might not require local anesthesia, depending on the amount of enamel that needs to be shaved. The goal is to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. A dental bur, a small rotating tool, is used to gently prepare the tooth's surface.

Once the tooth is prepared, an impression (or mold) of your teeth is taken. This impression is sent to a lab where a custom veneer is crafted to fit your smile comfortably. To ensure the impression accurately captures the tooth structure, the dentist will use a small retraction cord to temporarily move the gums away from the tooth. After the impression is made, the gum line will return to its original position.

The final step involves biting into a tray filled with paste to create a mold of your teeth. This process takes a few minutes to set, so patience is required while the mold solidifies.

Finalizing Your Veneer

Once your mold is complete, we will make any necessary final adjustments before sending it to a dental lab. It typically takes a couple of weeks to receive your permanent veneer. During this time, you may be fitted with a temporary veneer, although this is not always required. Temporary veneers are used primarily if a significant amount of enamel has been removed, which could make your tooth more sensitive or vulnerable to damage.

Last Appointment and Veneer Placement

At your final appointment, we will attach your custom veneer. The dentist will carefully adjust it to ensure it fits well and looks natural. If you have any concerns about the appearance or comfort of your new veneer, please let us know—we are committed to your satisfaction.

Once the adjustments are complete, the dentist will apply bonding cement to your tooth and attach the veneer. A special blue light is used to harden the cement and secure the veneer in place. After a final check to ensure the fit is perfect, your procedure is complete!

Last Appointment and Veneer Placement

You will receive specific instructions on how to care for your new veneer, including recommendations on foods to avoid. If you grind your teeth at night, you may also need a night guard to protect your veneer. Following these care guidelines will help ensure your veneer lasts for many years, often over a decade.
